About Babana
BABANA is an Iranian cake, cookie and baked-goods brand produced by Shahr Babana Co. in Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan. The legal entity behind the business was registered in 2000 and began commercial production in 2004. Corporate records show that the company originally operated under the legal name Ardin Toos before changing its name to Shahr Babana in 2007. The earliest BABANA trademark registration currently verified dates to 2005.
The company's early manufacturing activities included donuts, filled pastries, croissants and Danish-style products before its production strategy increasingly shifted toward industrial cake manufacturing. Over time, the portfolio expanded to include oil-based cakes, sponge and layered cakes, filled and coated products, roll cakes, cookies and dessert-oriented cake formats.
A distinctive feature of BABANA is its broad product-brand architecture. Current products are marketed under names such as Babatak, Babajoon, Babajoonam, Baba2, Babaman, Babatop, Atatap, Youtop, Pano and Brownie, alongside products carrying the BABANA name itself. Many product names are also supported by registered trademarks, creating a portfolio in which BABANA operates as the broader brand platform around a number of recognizable product families.
The business serves both domestic and international markets. Shahr Babana states that it operates an extensive distribution network and exports its products outside Iran. Independent shipment data provides recent evidence of cake exports to Pakistan, including products marketed under Babatak, Babajoonam, Babatop, Youtop, Atatap and Brownie. The company's current communications also identify Iraq, Afghanistan and Central Asian markets as part of its international activity.
BABANA has also developed a B2B dimension alongside its consumer-facing business. The company currently promotes customized manufacturing for international buyers, including flexibility in product type, weight, flavor or coating and buyer-specific packaging. This positions Shahr Babana not only as the manufacturer behind its own branded portfolio but also as a potential production partner for international food traders and private-label projects.
Brand communication has evolved alongside manufacturing. Shahr Babana's documented cooperation with Badkoobeh dates to 2010, while more recent communications increasingly use the idea of “Babana as a city” as a wider brand narrative built around togetherness, everyday moments and shared experiences. The company's current English-facing communication also uses the line “Bake Hearts Together.”
From Foodex Iran's perspective, one of BABANA's most interesting strategic questions lies in its brand architecture. The company has built a large portfolio of memorable, related product names, which can create strong differentiation at shelf level but may also fragment brand equity as the portfolio expands internationally. A stronger master-brand structure—where BABANA carries the main equity and product families such as Babatak, Babajoon and Atatap provide navigation beneath it—could make the portfolio easier to understand and scale across markets. The emerging “city of BABANA” concept also has the potential to become a distinctive long-term brand platform if product development, packaging, communication and consumer experience are consistently connected to the same idea.
