About Surprise
Surprise is an Iranian packaged drinking-water brand launched in 2005. The brand began with a refillable 19-liter water format combined with direct delivery to homes and offices, creating a business model that integrated the product itself with a recurring service. The original concept was developed by Hassan Salehi Asl, while the brand later continued its operations under Aqua Tech Star Iranians Co.
The refillable 19-liter format remains an important part of the Surprise portfolio. Its reusable container and refill model supports repeated household and workplace consumption and gives the brand a route-to-market structure that differs from conventional single-use bottled-water distribution.
From 2008 onward, Surprise expanded into more conventional bottled-water formats, initially introducing 500 ml and 1.5-liter bottles and later extending its range into additional single-serve and large-format packages. The current portfolio spans 250 ml bottles through 5-, 10- and 19-liter formats, while the Surprise Plus line includes 330 ml and 750 ml products designed for different serving occasions.
A further stage of organizational and brand development began in 2019, when Mohsen Salehi Asl assumed leadership of the business. The company's official history identifies brand redesign, portfolio expansion and organizational transformation among the priorities of this period.
Today, Surprise serves both household and institutional customers through direct sales, operational distribution centers and a network of regional representatives. This multi-channel structure allows the company to address everyday consumption, workplace supply, hospitality and larger organizational requirements through different packaging formats and service models.
From Foodex Iran's perspective, Surprise offers an interesting case of beverage-market development built around both packaging innovation and route-to-market design. Its initial differentiation appears to have been closely linked to the combination of a refillable large-format container and direct delivery rather than product formulation alone. The subsequent move into smaller formats and the Surprise Plus range suggests an effort to broaden consumption occasions. In this category, long-term competitiveness may depend not only on water quality, but also on logistics efficiency, container-return management, ordering experience and consistent product availability.
