Zar Macaron

Zar Macaron is one of Iran's established pasta and grain-based food brands. Its development formed part of a broader grain value chain created by Zar Industrial and Research Group.

The group's involvement in food manufacturing began with industrial flour production in the 1990s and later expanded into durum-wheat semolina. Zar Macaron Industrial Co. was incorporated in 2001, its manufacturing facility was developed in the mid-2000s, and Zar Macaron products entered the consumer market in 2006.

This upstream access to semolina became an important part of the company's industrial model. Rather than operating solely as a pasta manufacturer, Zar developed links between grain processing, flour production and finished-food manufacturing.

Zar Macaron's current portfolio includes spaghetti, shaped pasta, fettuccine, lasagna, soup and traditional Iranian noodles, cake mixes and flour. The company has also expanded into specialized nutrition through functional products, the Semolina Plus range and low-protein pasta developed for people with PKU.

Exports have been an established part of the company's strategy. Zar Macaron received repeated national exporter recognition between 2008 and 2014 and an Export Medal of Honor in 2015. The company currently reports exports across markets in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.

Zar Macaron Industrial Co. became a publicly traded company in 2020 under the ticker GHEZAR (غزر) on the Tehran Stock Exchange. Its shares are currently traded on the Main Board of the First Market.

Its integration of grain processing, semolina production, pasta manufacturing, nationwide distribution and export provides a useful example of how food businesses can build competitive advantage across multiple stages of the value chain rather than relying on consumer branding alone.
